Heavy Commercial Diesel Engine Oil Change & Sump Capacity Calculator
Interactive commercial diesel engine oil change calculator. Dynamically calculate exact oil fill volumes in Gallons, Quarts, and Liters with standard vs deep sump pan options and filter pre-fill compensation.
Commercial Fleet Oil Service & Pre-Fill Guidelines
1. Filter Pre-Filling: Always pre-fill spin-on lube filters with clean, fresh engine oil through the outer perimeter inlet holes (never the center discharge hole) before installation. This prevents dry-start bearing starvation and premature turbocharger journal bushing wear.
2. Dipstick Settling Window: After filling the oil pan and spinning on new filters, run the engine at 600–700 RPM low idle for 2 minutes to pressurize the oil galleys. Shut off the engine and allow at least 15 minutes for oil to drain back from the cylinder head into the sump pan before checking the dipstick crosshatch.
3. API CK-4 vs. FA-4 Compatibility: API CK-4 lubricants are backward-compatible with all older legacy engines (pre-EPA 2010). API FA-4 (10W-30 low HTHS) is formulated specifically for GHG17+ and GHG21 fuel economy engines and MUST NOT be used in pre-2017 legacy platforms.
